Man I really have left this a stupidly long time. Nobody cares what I did in Thailand almost 2 months ago (this makes me sad) and I am already planning my next adventure BUT I couldn't leave you (hi mom) on a cliffhanger with my blogs. So here it is a late night babble of what we did when we flew to the South!
As I have said previously we only spent three weeks in Thailand and in that time we managed to cram in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Krabi. We had the bestest time! We were pretty dubious about the islands but everyone kept saying they were worthwhile just for the incredible ocean views which were honestly out of this world. Also the tan you get out there is freaking unreal, even our Soph who is the palest babe got a gorg tan for herself, winning!!!
We got a flight from Chiang Mai to Surat Thani which was stupidly cheap, once again we had planned nothing we were just going off what people told us. Surat Thani is a tiny airport and people were waiting to lead us to desks that could book us immediate transport to the islands, we had a hotel booked in Koh Phangan so we got a bus and ferry ticket from Surat Thani to Koh Phangan. The South seemed to be where our luck ran out when it came to transport, we had soooo many bad experiences, but it was all part of the fun. Our ferry was delayed from Surat Thani so we had to get a much later one and we were insanely bored waiting at the port. The ferry journey was decent enough but when we finally arrived we got a taxi bus that took us close to the hotel (nowhere near close enough) we were dropped with several others in the centre of the town and we asked a local barman where our hotel was, he said it was too far for the two of us so the lovely Thai man and a middle aged English man took us on the backs of their motorbikes with our rucksacks as close to our hotel as possible. (Random stuff like this happens every day whilst travelling, you actually end up trusting complete strangers and seeing the good people that are out there) There was a bridge over the water so they couldn't take us directly to it and when we arrived at the huts the rain started pouring, it was midnight and all of the lights were switched off with nobody but an angry dog ready to greet us. We noticed a light behind the curtains in one of the huts and knocked on to find an elderly Thai lady that was the housekeeper, she let us into our hut and it was horrific. There were holes all over the room, bugs everywhere and we had the coldest shower known to man. I'm not high maintenance but I like cleanliness and a bed I feel safe to sleep in and this was not it. We were exhausted, sweaty and pissed off so we had cold showers, got dressed the best we could and walked across the beach in search of the full moon party.

Everyone brags about the full moon party but we had never been too fussed about it although now I'm sooo glad we did it, we had the best time dancing the night away and drinking out of buckets! It was a really good, vibrant atmosphere and I highly recommend everyone goes. It really brought us out of our little grump. We met a guy from Kuwait and told him about our experience with the room and he said that Koh Phangan wasn't the best island to stay on and that Koh Samui was a much nicer place so at 5am we picked up our belongings, left our key on the bed and disappeared into the night! We got a boat from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui (you wouldn't believe how easy it is to do random shit like this, lol), we ended up on this speedboat and during our travels a thunderstorm hit us and once again we got soaked and almost died in the ocean...
We found a hotel by 6.30 and once we had booked in we had a well earned few hours sleep and woke up the next day armed with soaked clothes, we took them to the laundrette where they washed, dried and folded everything for less than £3, insane. We relaxed on the beach and were greeted by monkeys!!!
We had one day in Koh Samui and we spent the day completely chilled on the beach drinking out of coconuts, reading books, playing with monkeys, eating at the beach club restaurant and hibernating in our room during a crazy storm. The vibe there was just what we needed.
After a couple of nights in Koh Samui we continued our journey to Koh Tao by speedboat, we got a taxi from the port to our hotel where we stayed for four nights. Our first night here was amazing, I had a glass of wine, freshly barbecued fish and the perfect sunset views, it was a dream. The rest of our time in Koh Tao was spent chilling on the beach, eating good food and we also went on an amazing snorkelling trip where we got to swim with baby sharks!!! The South is perfect for people that love the beach life, for anyone interested in water sports/swimming/snorkelling/diving/boat trips or just straight up relaxing on the beach, the South is ideal for that. Our favourite part was the North because although the vibe was really chilled in some parts there was sooo much to do there.

Obviously when you go to a foreign country you hear a lot of people warning of the possibilities of getting sick. A lot of people warned us about getting ill because of food but we didn't. Soph has quite a sensitive stomach to certain foods so we knew that if anything her reaction to food would be normal. What we weren't prepared for was for idiot over here to get sick because of the sun. Yes, Hun didn't listen to what she's been told her whole life about wearing sun cream and keeping hydrated. Nope, instead I got mild sunstroke from our boat trip where I chose to barely drink water the whole day when I was exposed to the sun for the majority of the day in hot, humid conditions. I then spent the following day throwing up and lying in bed. But yeah, other than that the food in Thailand didn't make me sick, almost blew my head off at times but didn't make me sick. Also their spicy is VERY different to our version of spicy. DO NOT ORDER THEIR SPICY.

Following Koh Tao we got the most traumatising boat trip of our LIFE to Krabi, we honestly thought the boat was going to capsize and so did half of the crew onboard, but we survived yay! We went to Krabi where we were greeted by crazy amounts of rain, the most incredible massages we have ever had and the sweetest lady that owned our guesthouse and had her cat waltzing around her feet in reception all day, every day. In Krabi they have beautiful beaches, food markets and temples. We stayed in the old city in Krabi which we liked because we got the best of both worlds, easy transport access to the beaches but lots to do when it rained. We also got a trip to Phi Phi islands from Krabi and if we had been there longer I would have stayed there too. The Phi Phi islands were gorgeous, especially Bamboo island, it honestly had the most picturesque beach. Maya Bay was unfortunately not everything I thought it would be, it was literally worthwhile just to say I had been but it was the most overcrowded beach that a visit there is pretty much pointless.

Our Thailand experience was incredible and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

I have soooo many more places I want to visit next and I don't think you can ever say you have travelled enough, there is so much beauty in the world to be seen, so many incredible people to meet, foods to try, culture to experience, views to admire and not one second of it will be regrettable.
Go and buy yourselves a ticket and when you do, holla at me!
Hope you enjoyed reading, H x
